You can put this solution on YOUR website! The school's fall musical was a big success. For opening night, 347 tickets were sold. Students paid $3.50 each, while non-students paid $5.50 each. If a total of $1450.50 was collected, how many students and how many non-students attended? --------------------
 Quantity:: s + n = 347
 Value:: 3.5s + 5.5n = 1450.5
 ----------
 Modify for elimination::
 3.5s + 3.5n = 3.5*347
 3.5s + 5.5n = 1450.5
 ------
 Subtract and solve for "n"::
 2n = 236
 n = 118 (# of non-student tickets sold)
 ------
 Solve for "s":
 s = 347-118 = 111 (# of student tickets sold)
 --------------
 Cheers,
 Stan H.
