Question 958318: Jon, Denny, and Ashley are taking turns washing cars at a basketball team fundraiser. Together they work for 54 minutes. Jon worked for 15 minutes. Ashley worked twice as long as Denny. How long did Ashley work for? I have taken 54 and subtracted 15 that Jon worked. It left 39 minutes I'm not sure how to finish the rest of this problem

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Jon, Denny, and Ashley are taking turns washing cars at a basketball team fundraiser. Together they work for 54 minutes. Jon worked for 15 minutes. Ashley worked twice as long as Denny. How long did Ashley work for? I have taken 54 and subtracted 15 that Jon worked. It left 39 minutes I'm not sure how to finish the rest of this problem
let x be the time Denny worked
let 2x be the time Ashley worked
15 + x + 2x = 54
3x = 39
x = 13
Therefore Denny worked 13 minutes and Ashley worked 26 minutes
Or
39 minutes = Denny's time + Ashley's time (2 times of Denny's)
Denny = 1/3 of the 39 minutes = 13 minutes
Asley = 2/3 of the 39 minutes or 13 minutes*2 = 26 minutes
