You can put this solution on YOUR website! If the total cost of a living room set is $2,000.00, the couch is 600.00 more than the loveseat and twice as much as the chair, what is the cost of each?
let x be the price of the chair
let 2x be the price of the couch
let 2x-600 be the price of the loveseat
x+2x+(2x-600) = 2000
x+2x+2x-600 = 2000
5x = 2600
x = 520
Therefore the chair is $520, the couch is $1040, the loveseat = $440
You can put this solution on YOUR website! loveseat=couch -$600
Chair=0.5 couch
couch+chair+loveseat=$2000 Substitute for loveseat and chair
couch+(0.5couch)+(couch-$600)=$2000
2.5 couch-$600=$2000 Add $600 to each side.
2.5 couch=$2600 Divide each side by 2.5
couch=$1040 ANSWER 1: The couch cost $1040.
chair=0.5 couch=0.5($1040)=$520 ANSWER 2: The chair cost $520.
Loveseat=couch-$600=$1040-$600=$440 ANSWER 3: The loveseat cost $440.
CHECK:
couch+chair+loveseat=$2000
$1040+$520+$440=$2000
$2000=$2000
