Question 957864: What is the relative value of the following:
A sedan will drive 10 miles north, 15 miles east, 13 miles south, 15 miles west, and 22 miles north.
I have absolute value of 10n+15e+13s+15w+22n= 75 miles
But relative value has me stumped. I have 10n+15e-13s-15w+22n=19 relative
Is this right?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Relative relates to the relation of where you end up from where you started.
The absolute refers to the number of miles added to the odometer, the cumulative total number of miles traveled.
Assume you are starting out at (0,0).
East is positive x, west is negative x.
North is positive y, south is negative y.
So in the x direction your final position is,
x=0%2B15-15=0
And in the y direction,
y=0-13%2B22=9
So then you end up at (0,9).
9 miles away from where you started.
