You can put this solution on YOUR website! A box can be made by cutting out the corners and folding up the edges of a square sheet of cardboard. A template for a cardboard box with a height of two inches is given. What is the length of each side of the cardboard sheet if the volume of the box is to be 50 cubic inches? Set up an equation using only one variable and solve
--------
Draw the square sheet.
Sketch 2" squares in each corner
Fold the flaps to establish a height of 2 in for the box.
Note: Each flap is x-4 inches by 2 inches
----------------------------
Height = 2 in
length = width = x-4 inches
Volume = 2(x-4)^2 = 50 in^3
(x-4)^2 = 25
x-4 = 5
x = 9
------
Ans: Each side of the original square = 9+2*2 = 13 inches
