Question 957487: A right prism with a square base has a height of 8cm and a volume of 128cm^3. Find the length of each edge of the base.
volume = area of base x height
128cm^3= ? x 8
= 16 cm x 8
I found 16 cm by trial and error. what is the correct method to derive at this answer if it is correct.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
volume = area of base x height
     V = (area of base)(h)

Since the base is a square its area is s², and each side
of the square base will be an edge of the base of the
right prism.

     V = s²h

   128 = s²(8)

Divide both sides by 8

    16 = s²

Take square roots of both sides

   √16 = √

     4 = s

Answer = each edge of the base of the right prism is 4 cm
