You can put this solution on YOUR website! Plane A is traveling 312 miles per hour and is 450 miles ahead of plane B. Plane B is traveling at 385 miles per hour. How long will it take plane B to catch up to plane A?
-------
Plane B DATA:
rate = 385 mph ; distance = x+450 miles ; time = d/r = (x+450)/385
----------
Plane A DATA:
rate = 312 mph ; distance = x miles ; time = d/r = x/312 hrs
-----
Equation::
time = time
(x+450)/385 = x/312
---------------
312x +312*450 = 385x
73x = 312*450
x = 1923.29
Ans: B time = (1923.29+450)/385 = 6.16 hrs = 6hr 9 min 36 seconds

You can put this solution on YOUR website! Plane A in t time will go 312t (rate x time), plus 450
Then we have plane B, in t time it will go 385t. And we want to see them catch up, so we set our equation like this: Subtract 312t from both sides: Now divide both sides by 73
t= 6.164 hours is how long it will take plane B to catch up with plane A.
Check: Correct.
