You can put this solution on YOUR website! What number must be subtracted from each of the terms of the fraction 13/22 and 17/32 so that the resulting fraction will be equal? Let x=the number that needs to be subtracted from each term of the fractions so the resulting fractions will be equal.
 Soooo:
 (13-x)/(22-x)=(17-x)/(32-x) We can cross-multiply
 (13-x)(32-x)=(17-x)(22-x) expand using the FOIL (First,Outer, Inner, Last)method
 416-13x-32x+x^2=374-17x-22x+x^2
 416-45x+x^2=374-39x+x^2   collect like terms
 6x=42
 x=7
 CK
 (13-7)/(22-7)=(17-7)/32-7)
 6/15=10/25 or
 2/5=2/5
 Hope this helps----ptaylor
