Question 955195: If I drive to the store at 30 mph, and drive 60 mph on my way back-what is the average speed?
Okay, so I assumed that 30+60=90 , 90/2=45 but that didn't solve the question correctly.

You can put this solution on YOUR website! If I drive to the store at 30 mph, and drive 60 mph on my way back-what is the average speed?
Okay, so I assumed that 30+60=90 , 90/2=45 but that didn't solve the question correctly.
================================
It's not right, because more time is spent driving at 30 mi/hr than at 60 mi/hr.
---------------
Avg speed of the round trip is 2*30*60/(30+60)
= 3600/90
= 40 mi/hr
------------------
This is the basis of the Michelson-Morley experiment in the the 1840's that disproved any effects of the "Ether."
The Ether was put aside with phlogiston, the flat Earth, and other bullshit.
Unfortunately, we still have people who think there are gods.
