Eight years ago my father was three times as old as I shall be in five year’s time. When I was born he was 41 years old. How old am I now?

when you were born, your father was 41 years old.
his age now is x + 41.
8 years ago, his age was 3 times your age will be in 5 years.
(x + 41) - 8 = 3 * (x + 5)
simplify to get:
x + 33 = 3x + 15
subtract x from both sides of this equation and subtract 15 from both sides of this equation to get:
33 - 15 = 3x - x
simplify to get:
18 = 2x
solve for x to get:
x = 9
your age now is 9 years old.
your father's age now is 9 + 41 = 50 years old.
8 years ago, your father was 42 years old.
5 years from now, your age will be 14 years old.
42 is equal to 3 * 14, so 8 years ago, your father's age was 3 times your age will be 5 years from now.
solution is that your current age is 9 years old.
