Question 953972: Approximate each square root to the nearest hundredth.
1.) A baseball diamond is a square 90 on a side. What is the length from first base to third base?
2.) The base of an isosceles triangle is 18 cm long. The equal sides are each 24 cm long. Find the altitude.
I need help with these. It would be very greatly appreciated if you could show me some steps.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Problem 1:
Diagonal of a square with side x is given by sqrt%282%29x
The diagonal(d) is hypotenuse with each leg =x
x%5E2%2Bx%5E2=d%5E2
2x%5E2=d%5E2
sqrt%282x%5E2%29=d
x%2Asqrt%282%29=d
Side=90 so sqrt%282%29%2890%29=127.28
ANSWER: The diagonal of the ball diamond is 127.28
Problem 2:
The altitude will form a right triangle from midpoint of base
a=1/2 base=9cm; b=altitude; c=hypotenuse=24cm
a%5E2%2Bb%5E2=c%5E2
b%5E2=c%5E2-a%5E2
b=sqrt%28c%5E2-a%5E2%29
b=sqrt%2824%5E2-9%5E2%29
b=sqrt%28576%2B81%29
b=sqrt%28657cm%5E2%29=25.63 cm ANSWER: The altitude is 25.63 cm.
