Question 952538: I saw this equation in another's question and I need help solving for x even though I could figure it out mentally. I'd like to see how it is solved mathematically: 5 -(1/6)x = (-2/3) x. So, eliminating the fractions by multiplying by 6 leaves 30 - x = -4X. I can see that x= 10, but I just can't solve it mathematically. I have tried several times, and I'm afraid my work is rather embarrassing. Thank you. You can put this solution on YOUR website! You probably hit a mental block when you could "see" it was x=10:
30-x=-4x Add 4x to each side
30+3x=0 Subtract 30 from each side
3x=-30 Divide each side by 3.
x=-10
CHECK:
5-1/6(-10)=-2/3(-10)
5+(10/6)=20/3
(30/6)+(10/6)=40/6
40/6=40/6
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Try this:
Multiply both sides by
Now subtract from both sides
Divide both sides by
