During the morning (AM) there are 12 hours from midnight to noon. The clock reading (time) tells us how many of these 12 hours have passed, so the hours of morning left are (12-time) in this case x AM so (12-x) of those hours were used traveling. Two additional hours of afternoon from noon to 2 PM were also used traveling so we add 2 hours
t=(12-x)+2 hours
