ok. do you want the questions from the book? even if you dont, i provided them anyway.
our teacher said that we had to write the variable expression and not solve it. he also said that we were only allowed to use ONE variable. that is part of the reason im SOOO confused!
#16 the length of a rectangle is one unit more than its width. If the area is 30 square units, find the demensions of the rectangle.
#18 A triangle has two equal sides and a third side that is 15 cm long. If the perimeter is 50 cm, how long is each of the two equal sides?
#20 Tina, Dawn, and Harry have $175 together. Tina has three times as much money as Dawn. Dawn has twice as much money as Harry. How much money does each have?
#22 Teri has one-fourth as many canadian stamps as her father has in his collection. She has one-seventh as many Canadian stamps as her grandfather has. How many stamps do they each have if together they have 120 Canadian stamps?

You can put this solution on YOUR website! write the variable expression and not solve it. he also said that we were only allowed to use ONE variable. that is part of the reason im SOOO confused!
--------------------
#16 the length of a rectangle is one unit more than its width. If the area is 30 square units, find the demensions of the rectangle.
Let the width be "x" ; length is then "x+1"
EQUATION: x(x+1)= 30
-------------------------
#18 A triangle has two equal sides and a third side that is 15 cm long. If the perimeter is 50 cm, how long is each of the two equal sides?
Let the equal sides be "x"
EQUATION: x+x+15 = 50
---------------------------
#20 Tina, Dawn, and Harry have $175 together. Tina has three times as much money as Dawn. Dawn has twice as much money as Harry. How much money does each have?
Let Harry's amt be "x"; Dawn has "2x"; Tina has 3*(2x)" = "6x"
EQUATION: x + 2x + 6x = 175
----------------------------------------------
#22 Teri has one-fourth as many canadian stamps as her father has in his collection. She has one-seventh as many Canadian stamps as her grandfather has. How many stamps do they each have if together they have 120 Canadian stamps?
Let Terri's number of stamps be "x";
Her father has "4x" stamps
Her grandfather has "7x" stamps
EQUATION: x+4x+7x = 120
