2. The question is, The sum of two numbers is 15. Twice one number equals 3 times the other. Find both numbers. I know the equations are x+y=15 and xsquared=3y, but I don't know how to solve with the exponent to find the 2 numnbers. Can you help me please. Thank You. Answer by macston(5194) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
W=no of women; M=no of men
1.W=3M-1 Don't see anything wrong here unless there is more to the problem.
2.x=one number, y=the other
x+y=15
x=15-y
2x=3y Substitute for x
2(15-y)=3y
30-2y=3y Add 2y to each side
30=5y
6=y ANSWER 1: The other number is 6.
x=15-y=15-6=9 ANSWER 2: One number is 9.
CHECK:
2x=3y
2(9)=3(6)
18=18
x+y=15
9+6=15
15=15
