Question 94770: Find the equation of the line passing throgh the point (32,11) and perpendicular to th line 8x+y=32. Write you answer in slope intercept form.
Can anyone explain this...greatly appreciated.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
rewriting in slope-intercept form gives y=-8x+32, so the slope of this line is -8

perpendicular lines have slopes that are negative reciprocals, so the slope of the new line is 1/8

using point-slope form gives (y-11)=(1/8)(x-32) ... y-11=(1/8)x-4 ... y=(1/8)x+7
