You can put this solution on YOUR website!
A sporting goods store sells right handed and left handed baseball gloves.
In one month 12 gloves were sold for a total revenue of $528 right handed gloves cost $48 and left handed gloves cost $36 write a system of equations to solve to find the number of each glove sold.
Solve the system to find the number of each type of glove sold let x represent the number of right handed gloves sold and y represent the left handed gloves sold
:
Write an equation for the total number of gloves sold
x + y = 12
y = (12-x); use this form for substitution
:
Write an equation for the total value of the gloves sold
48x + 36y = 528
replace y with (12-x)
48x + 36(12-x) = 528
48x + 432 - 36x = 528
48x - 36x = 528 - 432
12x = 96
x = 96/12
x = 8 rt handed gloves
then
12-8 = 4 left handed gloves
;
:
Check this in the 2nd equation
48(8) + 36(4) =
384 + 144 = 528
