You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The absolute value is positive. Multiply it by both sides of the inequality.

1%3Eabs%28x%2B5%29

Either x+5 is non-negative or x+5 is negative.
Continue with those. You do not pick which; you use BOTH separately.

5%2Fabs%28x+%2B+5%29+%3E+5, with x+%3C%3E+-+5
5+%3E+5abs%28x+%2B+5%29 ------ Multiplying by LCD, abs%28x+%2B+5%29
5%2F5+%3E+abs%28x+%2B+5%29
abs%28x+%2B+5%29+%3C+1
Either: x + 5 < 1, or x + 5 > - 1
x + 5 < 1
x < 1 - 5
x < - 4
x + 5 > - 1
x > - 1 - 5
x > - 6
This means that the CRITICAL POINTS are: - 6, - 5, and - 4
If x < - 6, or x = - 7
5%2Fabs%28x+%2B+5%29+%3E+5
5%2Fabs%28-+7+%2B+5%29+%3E+5
5%2Fabs%28-+2%29+%3E+5
5%2F2+%3E+5 (FALSE)
If - 6 < x < - 5, or x = - 5.5

5%2Fabs%28-+5.5+%2B+5%29+%3E+5
5%2Fabs%28-+.5%29+%3E+5
5%2F.5+%3E+5
10> 5 (TRUE)
If - 5 < x < - 4, or x = - 4.5
5%2Fabs%28x+%2B+5%29+%3E+5
5%2Fabs%28-+4.5+%2B+5%29+%3E+5
5%2Fabs%28.5%29+%3E+5
5%2F.5+%3E+5
10 > 5 (TRUE)
If x > - 4, or x = 0
5%2Fabs%28x+%2B+5%29+%3E+5
5%2Fabs%280+%2B+5%29+%3E+5
5%2Fabs%285%29+%3E+5
5%2F5+%3E+5
1 > 5 (FALSE)
Thus, the solution, in INTERVAL NOTATION is: (- 6, - 5) U (- 5, - 4)
