: Hi I'm trying to graph numbers on a number line. they're giving me fractions like -4/3rds which they also say in the lesson that its -1 and 1/3rd and I don't understand how they came up with that answer. I'm trying to graphy -5/3rds and -9/4ths on a number line. please help me understand how to graph these!! This question is from textbook
You can put this solution on YOUR website! I'm trying to graph -5/3rds and -9/4ths on a number line.
(-5/3) is -(1 2/3)
Draw a line.
Put 0 someplace on the line and -1 ,-2,-3,...
To the left of 0.
(-5/3) is 1 and 2/3 to the left of 0
That puts it more than one to the left of zero.
That means it is between -1 and -2.
------------------
(-9/4) = -(2 1/4)
That puts it more than 2 to the left of zero.
That means it is between -3 and -2.
