L-longer piece
Write down what you know in algebraic language.
1.S%2BL=48
2.L=S%2B10
Now solve.
Substitute eq. 2 into eq. 1,
S%2B%28S%2B10%29=48
2S%2B10=48
2S=38
Now solve for S.
Once you have S go back to eq. 2 and solve for L.
