outside the pentagon it says the length is 3cm- all sides. ( I think that means each side is 3cm)

The scale says that 1 cm in the drawing corresponds to 4 m in the real lab object.
All five sides have the same length, and
I agree that they mean each side of the pentagon in the drawing measures 3 cm.
That means that the real life object represented is a pentagon with sides measuring

The perimeter is 5%2A12m=highlight%2860m%29 .
