Question 946008: The question is: Peter wants to borrow some money frm his father at 4% simple interest and from his uncle at 5% simple interest. He is going to borrow $100 more from his father than from his uncle. If his total annual interest is to be $44.50, how much should he borrow from each?
I have to solve it using matrices and I know I need two equations but I can't come up with the second equation. So far I have: .04x+.05y=$44.50
I am not sure how to find the next equation since I don't know how much money he has borrowed in total..

Based on your equation, it's obvious that you've chosen to use the variable, y as the amount to be borrowed from the uncle
Therefore, the amount to be borrowed from the father, or x = y + 100. This is your 2nd equation
