Multiply each term by the L.C.D 6
4a / 3 *6+ 1/2 *6 = 2/3*6
4a*2 +1*3 = 2*2
8a + 3 = 4
8a +3 -3 = 4 -3
8a = 1
8a/8 = 1/8
a = 1/8
CHECK
4a / 3 + 1/2 = 2/3
4*1/8*3 +1/2 = 2/3
4/24 +1/2 = 2/3
1/6 +1/2 = 2/3
(1+1*3)/6 = 2/3
4/6 = 2/3
2/3 = 2/3
LHS = RHS
