You can put this solution on YOUR website! Since we have 2 parts (2 and 3) the whole is 5
We can use a ratio of 2 (or 3) to 5 as x is to 12
2/5=x/12
24/5=x
4.8=x ANSWER The shorter piece is 4.8 feet.
AND
3/5=x/12
36/5=x
7.2=x ANSWER The longer piece is 7.2 feet.
CHECK
7.2feet+4.8feet=12 feet
ratio of 4.8/7.2=2/3
