You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Width=W; Length=L=4W-12 Perimeter=P=176
P=2(L+W) Substitute for L
176=2((4W-12)+W)
176=2(5W-12) Divide each side by 2
88=5W-12 Add 12 to each side.
100=5W Divide each side by 5
20=W ANSWER 1 The width is 20
L=4W-12=4(20)-12=80-12=68 ANSWER Length is 68
CHECK
P=2(L+W)
176=2(28+20)
176=2(88)
176=176

A rectangular solar panel has a length that is 12 inches shorter then 4 times its width. If the perimeter is 176, what are the dimensions?
***
let x=width of solar panel
4x-12=length (12 inches shorter then 4 times its width)
2(length+width)=176
2(x+4x-12)=176
10x-24=176
10x=200
x=20
4x-12=68
..
dimensions?
width=20 inches
length=68 inches
