multiplying the second equation by 2 and adding to first equation gives (2x+4y)+2(4x-2y)=3+2(1)

2x+4y+8x-4y=3+2 ... 10x=5 ... x=1/2 ... 2(1/2)+4y=3 ... 4y=2 ... y=1/2
