F=P+25
F+10=2(P+10)
F+10=2P+20 Subtract 10 from each side
F=2P+10 Substitute for F in first equation
2P+10=P+25 Subtract 10 from each side
2P=P+15 Subtract P from each side
P=15 ANSWER 1 Phil is 15 years old
F=P+25=15+25=40 ANSWER 2 Father is 40 years old
