You can put this solution on YOUR website!

The Halloween association reported that last year, Americans spent $0.68 billion more on candy than costumes for Halloween. If the total spent by Americans for both items was $3.18 billion how much did Americans spend on each item?

Let total spent on costumes, be C
Then amount spent on candy is: C + 0.68
Since they spent a total of $3.18B on both items, we get: C + C + .68 = 3.18
2C + .68 = 3.18
2C = 3.18 - .68
2C = 2.5
C, or amount spent on costumes = 2.5%2F2, or highlight_green%28%22%24%221.25B%29
Amount spent on candy = 1.25B + .68B, or highlight_green%28%22%24%221.93B%29
