Question 94364: Plot the graph of the following equations 2x + 4y = 10 and 3x + 6y = 12 and interpret the result. Answer by edjones(8007) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! solve each equation for y.
subtract 2x from each side 4y=10-2x
A. divide each side by 4
subtract 3x from each side 6y=12-3x
B. divide each side by 6
Next get 2 x and y coordinates (x,y) for each equation on graph paper and draw a line between them.
For example in the equation B if you make x=0 then y=2 (0,2). if you make x=2 then y=1 (2,1). make a dot on the graph paper where (0,1) is and where (2,1) is and draw a straight line with a ruler. do the same procedure with equation A.
The lines are parallel. They have the same slope. You can't solve these equations for x or y.
