You can put this solution on YOUR website! Working together Linda and Jim can clean the windows of their house in 3 hours and 36 minutes. Linda can clean all the windows by herself in 7 hours. How long will it take Jim to clean the windows by himself?
----------------
Linda DATA:
Time = 420 minutes/job ; Rate = 1/420 job/minute
-------------------
Jim DATA:
Time = x minutes/job ; Rate = 1/x job/min
--------------------
Together DATA;
Time = 216 minutes/job ; = 1/216 job/minute
--------------------------
EQUATION:
rate + rate = together rate
1/420 + 1/x = 1/216
Multiply thru be 4x to get:
x/105 + 4 = x/54
x/105 - x/54 = -4
(54x -105x) = -4*105*54
-51x = -22680
x = 444.71 minutes
x = 7 hrs 24 minutes (time for Jim to do the job alone)
