You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Katie's age=K Anne's age=A
K-4=2(A-4)
A+6=K Substitute this in first equation for K
(A+6)-4=2(A-4)
A+2=2A-8 add 8 to each side
A+2+8=2A-8+8
A+10=2A Subtract A from each side
A+10-A=2A-A
10=A ANSWER Anne is 10 years old
K=A+6=16 ANSWER Katie is 16 years old
CHECK
4 years ago Anne was 6 and Katie was 12 (twice as old)
In 6 years Anne will be 16 (Katie's age now)
