You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Of 24 pounds of salt water, 12% is salt. In order to have a solution that shall contain 4% salt, how many pounds of pure water must be added ?
Let x=amount of pure water needed
Now we know that the pure salt before the water is added (0.12)(24) has to equal the pure salt after the water is added (0.04(24+x))
Soooo our equation to solve is:
(0.12)(24)=0.04(24+x)
2.88=0.96+0.04x
0.04x=1.92
x=48 lbs------amount of water needed
CK
(0.12)(24)=0.04(72)
2.88=2.88
