Question 938275: Ok so I have homework and my teacher didn't help me much to understand it. I have tried setting up ratios and all that but here is the question:
The Shanghai Maglev Train is one of the fastest trains in the world, traveling about 2,144 miles in 8 hours. The distance between Columbus, Ohio, and New York City is about 560 miles. How many hours would it take the train to travel between cities?
I am very stuck, at first I think I got it, but then I doubt myself knowing that isn't how I will solve this problem. Please help. Thanks!

You can put this solution on YOUR website! Distance = Rate * Time
D = r*t
2144 = r*8 ... plug in the distance of 2144 mi and time of 8 hrs
2144/8 = r
r = 268
The train travels at 268 mph (on avg)
-------------------------------------------------------
D = r*t
560 = 268*t ... plug in the distance of 560 mi and speed of 268 mph
560/268 = t
t = 2.08955 (this is approximate)
It will take roughly 2.08955 hours
