You can put this solution on YOUR website!
h = H's age
s = son's age
:
Write an equation for each statement
:
Hari is twice as old as his son.
h = 2s
20 year ago he was 4 times as old as his son.
h - 20 = 4(s-20)
h - 20 = 4s - 80
h = 4s - 80 + 20
h = 4s - 60
Replace h with 2s (from the 1st statement)
2s = 4s - 60
60 = 4s - 2s
60 = 2s
s = 60/2
s = 30 yrs is son's age
Find the present age of each?
h = 2(30) = 60 is H's age
:
:
See if that checks out in the 2nd statement
60 - 20 = 4(30-20)
40 = 4(10)
