No. Two values of Y can occur for one value of X. Also, y is not used in your equation. According to your equation, X is not a function of y, and y is not a function of X.

What you really are trying to find is
-Y%5E2=1-X%5E2
Y%5E2=X%5E2-1
Y=-sqrt%28X%5E2-1%29 OR Y=sqrt%28X%5E2-1%29
Each of these solutions, Y in terms of X, is a function, but BOTH of them together are NOT a function. The original equation X^2-Y^2=1 is a relation BUT NOT A FUNCTION.
