Question 937329: "One triangle has sides 13, 13, and 10. Another triangle has sides 12, 20, and 16. Find the ratio of the smaller area to the larger area. Write your answer using : to indicate ratio."
I found the area of the smaller triangle to be 60 square units by dividing it in half since it is isosceles and obtaining the altitude that way. then i did

5(5) +x(x) =13(13)
25+x(x) =169
x(x) =144
x=12
10(12)/2 = 6o units squared
But i am having difficulties fiding the altitude and area of the larger triangle.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
area of the smaller
5(5) +x(x) =13(13)
25+x(x) =169
x(x) =144
x=12
10(12)/2 = 6o units squared Good Work.

Use Heron's Equation to find the area of a triangle when 3 sides are given
sides 12, 20, and 16.
A = sqrt%28s%28s-a%29%28s-b%29%28s-c%29%29 s = 1/2P = 24
A = sqrt%2824%2812%29%284%29%288%29%29 = 96
.....
ratio of the smaller area to the larger area: 60/96 = 5/8
