Question 936553: I just want to double check on the problem I am working on now,it is much appreciated if i could get help or a tutor to correct me.
Keith and Michelle went out to dinner. The total cost of the meal,including the tip, came to $53.70. If the combined tip came to $9.60, and each friend spent an equal amount, what are the possible amounts each friend paid not including tip?
In my answer I put:
53.70 = 9.60x

9.60. 9.60
X= 6
I'm not sure this is correct but I would like help,please?

Tips = $9.60

Just the foods cost, $53.70 minus $9.60.

then both spent $ including the tip
question is what are the possible amounts each friend paid not including tip?
so, first exclude the tip:
both spent $ => $ excluding the tip
now solve for to find the possible amounts each friend paid :
