Question 936553: I just want to double check on the problem I am working on now,it is much appreciated if i could get help or a tutor to correct me.

Keith and Michelle went out to dinner. The total cost of the meal,including the tip, came to $53.70. If the combined tip came to $9.60, and each friend spent an equal amount, what are the possible amounts each friend paid not including tip?

In my answer I put:

53.70 = 9.60x
--------    --------
9.60.       9.60

X= 6

I'm not sure this is correct but I would like help,please?

You can put this solution on YOUR website! Cost + Tips = $53.70

Tips = $9.60

Just the foods cost, $53.70 minus $9.60.

Two friends, equal cost for food and the tips.

 , which does not include the tips.

$22.05 per friend for the food.
