Tom is 8 years older than his sister. In 4 years he will be twice his sister's age. How old is tom?
-----------------
Equations:
t = s + 8
t+4 = 2(s+4)
----------
Substitute for "t" and solve for "s":
s+8+4 = 2s+8
s = 4 (Sister's age now)
----
Ans: t = s+8 = 12 (Tom's age now)
