Question 934636: When solving a system of equations, how do you determine which method to use?
Answer by jim_thompson5910(35256) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! If one variable is already isolated or can easily be isolated without any fractions resulting, then use substitution.
If both equations are in standard form, then use elimination.
Graphing would be the last method I'd use because it's not always accurate (since you could get fractional/decimal answers); however, it's a good tool to check your answer visually.

Technically, any of the 3 methods above will do as long as you use them correctly. I'm pointing out each case based on what I think is easiest.
