      (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! S = # of students F = # of females
 M = # of males

 "60 Percent students are female" ---> 0.6S = F ---> F = 0.6S

 "52 more females than male" ---> F = M+52

 Total Students: S = F+M solve for M to get M = S-F

 -------------------------------------------------------

 F = M+52

 F = S-F+52 ... plug in M = S-F

 F+F = S+52

 2F = S+52

 2(0.6S) = S+52 ... plug in F = 0.6S

 1.2S = S+52

 1.2S - S = 52

 0.2S = 52

 S = 52/0.2

 S = 260

 There are 260 students total.
