Question 933759: I am having trouble with a problem in my pre-calc class. I know how to complete the problem, I just need the polynomial factored..(which I've never been good at).
The polynomial is x^5 + x^3 -6x.
I factored out an x so I now have x(x^4+x^2-6). After that I do not know what to do. Can you please help me? Answer by JoelSchwartz(130) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! x(x^4+x^2-6)=x^5+x^3-6x
y=some number
z=another number
(x^2+y)(x^2+z)=x^4+x^2-6
x^4+yx^2+zx^2+zy=x^4+x^2-6
yx^2+zx^2+zy=x^2-6
yx^2+zx^2=x^2
y+z=1
yz=-6
if y=3 and z=-2
3*-2=-6
3-2=1
(x^2+3)(x^2-2)=x^4+3x^2-2x^2-6
x((x^2+3)(x^2-2))=x^5+x^3-6x
