Question 933355: My Dad printed off some worksheets for me to work on to get better in school. I have been doing so well right through until I got to this question, can you please help me?
"Two buildings are 50 meters apart. From the top of a building, the angle of elevation from the top of a nearby building is 28 degrees. The angle of depression of the bottom of the nearby building is 48 degrees. What is the height of the taller building? (Round your answer to the nearest meter.)"
Thank you for your time it means alot! This will help me with my honors math class next semester.
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Draw a picture of the description and label all parts. You have "a building" and "nearby building". I would do maybe like this:
A building on the left, fifty meters to the right, the "nearby building". Make the "nearby building" the taller building. Draw and label the segments forming the two described angles.
You should identify two right triangles which share a side of length 50 meters. This common length serves as a leg of both triangles. Now, you have the tall building split into two lengths: the upper part is a leg of the upper triangle, and the lower part is a leg of the lower triangle.
You should make use of the tangent function.
If you have made the diagram or picture as I tried to say, you would have upper segment and , meaning as u for upper, and L for lower, segments.
You finally want to evaluate , and just evaluate this.
