note that the logarithm rule states
if y = log base b (x), then x = b^y

What you need to remember about logs, is that the LOG is the exponent.
IMO, it's an unfortunate choice of the name (logarithm, that is).
If the name was similar to exponent, such as exlog, expolog, or something like that, people would have fewer problems with them.
