Question 931938: A bullet fired from a gun travels a distance of 4750 ft in 3.2 seconds. Find the average speed of the bullet in miles per hour.
Answer by jim_thompson5910(35256) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! 4750 ft in 3.2 seconds = 4750 ft/3.2 seconds = 1,484.375 ft/s
Convert to miles per hour
(1,484.375 ft/1 sec)*(1 mi/5280 ft)*(60 sec/1 min)*(60 min/1 hr) = 1,012.07386363637 (this is approximate)
The average speed of the bullet is approximately 1,012.07386363637 miles per hour
According to this Mythbuster's Page (it is a great show, you should check it out whenever possible), it states "The average bullet travels at 2,500 feet per second (around 1,700 mph)". So this bullet is a bit slower than average, but around the right speed.
