You can put this solution on YOUR website!
If working together Aaron and Jake can mow a field in 2 hours and 40 minutes. Aaron uses an older mower and would take 8 hours working alone. How would long it take Jake using the newer mower to mow the field by himself?
----
Note 2 hr 40 min = 2 2/3 hrs = 8/3 hrs
-----
Together DATA:: time = 8/3 hr/job ; rate = 3/8 job/hr
------------------
Aaron rate = 1/8 job/hr
Jake rate = 1/x job/hr
-------
Equation:
rate + rate = together rate::
1/x + 1/8 = 3/8
----
8 + x = 3x
2x = 8
x = 4 hrs (time for Jake to do the job alone)
----------
