Question 931166: Dan has a job in Denver and is going to drive 4/9 the distance on day 1. on day 2, he drives 3/8 the distance. on day 3, he drives the rest of the 546 miles. what's the total distance driven.
what I have done is cleared the fractions and subtracted the 546, but its not working out for me.

Let distance be x miles
4x/9 + 3x/8 +546=x
4x/9 +3x/8 -x= -546
(32x+27x-72x)/72 = -546
-13x=-546
x=42 miles
