Answer by algebrahouse.com(1659) About Me  (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Distance = rate x time

One bus
d = rt
d = 56t {distance = rate x time}

Other bus
d = rt
d = 53t {distance = rate x time}

When traveling in opposite directions, their combined distances will equal 654.

56t + 53t = 654 {combined distances and set equal to 654}
109t = 654 {combined like terms}
t = 6 {divided each side by 109}

In 6 hours, they will be 654 miles apart
