You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Two cars traveled in opposite directions from the same starting point. The rate of one car was 10km /h faster than the rate of the other car. After 4 hours the cars were 46okm apart. Find each car's rate.
----------------------
1st car DATA:
Rate = x kph ; Time = 4 hrs ; distance =rt =4x km
---------------
2nd car DATA:
Rate = x+10 kph ; Time = 4 hrs. ; distance = rt = 4(x+10)= 4x+40 km
-----------------------
EQUATION:
distance + distance = 460 km
4x + 4x+40 = 460
8x = 420
x = 52.5 kph (speed of the 1st car)
x+10 = 62.5 kph ( speed of the 2nd car)
