First of all...what is mathematically true is that: log 3 = .477
...this is an exercise in base 10 logarithms
3log 3 = 3(.477) = 1.431
Note: 3log 3 = log 3^3 = log (27)
.........
And ...
log(300) = log (3•100) = log 3 + log 100 = .477 + 2 = 2.477
log( 1/27) = log (3/81) = log 3 - log 81 = .477 - 1.908 = -1.431 (used calculator for log 81
log(.3) = log (3/10) = log 3 - log 10 = .477 - 1 = -.523
