Each quarter is 25 cents. So 5 quarters is 5 times 25 cents which is 125 cents.

Another way you might look at it is that 4 quarters equal a dollar and a dollar is 100 cents.
So 5 quarters is equal to a dollar plus a quarter which is 100 cents plus 25 cents for a
total of 125 cents.
